Telstra Safe Connections Program

WESNET has partnered with Telstra since late 2014 to help women impacted by domestic violence to stay safely connected. Telstra provides smartphones, pre-paid credit and information on the safe use of technology to WESNET for distribution through its partner agencies nationally to support women impacted by domestic violence.

The program won an Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Award in 2016. The awards recognise and reward good practice in the prevention or reduction of violence and other types of crime in Australia.

25yearsseal-pluslogoIn March 2016, Telstra announced that it would be providing 20,000 new smart phones to the program. The Commonwealth Government also funded WESNET to deliver training about technology facilitated abuse to frontline agencies so they can support the women who need new phones. The measure, known as Safer Technology for Women is part of the federal governments $100m Women’s Safety Package.

Telstra Pre-Paid Recharge Program

The Telstra Pre-Paid Recharge Program provides $30 pre-paid mobile recharge cards, at no cost, to support community agencies helping survivors of domestic violence who depend on a Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile for their communications.
