Wesnet welcomes the launch of Our Ways, Strong Ways, Our Voices, National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family Safety Plan (2026-2036).
Our Ways, Strong Ways, Our Voices is the first standalone national plan dedicated to ending domestic and family violence against Aboriginal women and children. The
release of this plan represents many years of staunch campaigning, consultations and collective work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander survivors, communities and advocates.

It also marks a critical step towards more coordinated community and government action towards achieving Target 13 of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap 2020-2030.
We are pleased to see the federal commitment to prioritising and resourcing community-led, self-determined approaches to ensuring that all Aboriginal women and children are safe and free from violence. We join the calls from our sister organisations to ensure that any new funding associated with this plan should go directly to frontline, specialist Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
These services have always provided critical support to Aboriginal communities and survivors of violence, and must be adequately and sustainably funded.
Catherine Plunkett (Acting CEO) attended the launch of Our Ways, Strong Ways, Our Voices at Parliament House on Ngunnawal Country this morning.
“We look forward to supporting the essential work that is set out under this plan over the coming decade, and continuing to stand in solidarity with Aboriginal communities and services working to end violence against Aboriginal women and children”.
