2015 Global Women’s Shelters Data Count

WESNET has been an active member of the Global Network of Women’s Shelters since its inception in 2009.

Since that time, the Global Network has conducted an annual data count of services providing responses to women and children experiencing violence.  The 2015 Global Data Count is now open, and we encourage all WESNET members and other women’s domestic and family violence services or women’s services/programs providing domestic or family violence responses to women and children to complete the electronic survey and contribute to our data count globally.  Please forward this link to any relevant services you may know in Australia.

There is an information sheet about the data count, together with a copy of the questions asked in the electronic survey.  Please note that the questions are framed in such a way as to enable comprehension by a global audience.  For example, a refuge might be referred to as a shelter or other safe space etc.

The data count asks that you pick one day between now and 1 August 2015 – and on that day, keep a count of how many women and children you assist, as well as tally how many women and children your service is unable to assist.  The survey also asks for a number of other details including opportunity for women’s voices to be promoted, as well as opportunity for our staff to share their working experiences.  Data must be entered on or before 1 August 2015.

The Global Network Data Count sub-committee will then collate the data and produce a report.  The 2015 data count will be launched at the 3rd World Conference of Women’s Shelters in The Hague, The Netherlands from 3 to 6 November 2015.  For a flyer about the conference click here – you are all encouraged to attend!

If you have any questions about the data count, please do not hesitate to contact WESNET’s representative on the data count working group – Margaret Augerinos.  Margaret can be contacted via email here.
