Please note the change of date. These are the official dates. WESNET is pleased to be a part of this through our involvement in the Global Network of Women's Shelters (GNWS).

Australian Law Reform Commission: Family Violence - Improving Legal Frameworks Review

Reports from the 2009 National Community Attitudes Toward Violence Against Women Survey have been released. Results show that since 1995, when the last survey was conducted, understanding of domestic and sexual violence and its impacts has broadened amongst the Australian community. Fewer Australians condone violence, but there is still work to be done.

Wednesday May 5th 2010 marks the inaugural National Day to Remember where people around the country will be lighting candles at a 6pm to remember and pay respects to those (predominantly women and children) who have died because of domestic and family violence. Please contact your state or territory DV Crisis Line for local information of vigils held near you.

WESNET delegates have recently returned from New York where they were part of an international delegation to present to the 54th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

Minister Tanya Plibersek has announced funding for WEAVE (Women Everywhere Advocating Violence Elimination) to become one of six National Women's Alliances. WEAVE will be the National Violence Against Women Alliance.
